Heroes amongst Us - Parents

By Armaan Malik @ FKB

Every child grows up having a superhero. Like most of you, I too had my moments of wanting to be like Superman or Batman or any one member of the Justice League. I dreamt of how cool it would be to have superpowers, to be popular, to be able to help people.

As an adult, I realize that superheroes are mere fictional characters created by normal people like you and I.
Nonetheless, I still dreamt of being special and having the ability to help others. I wanted to do good but how?

Coming from an average family where both parents worked long hours to make ends meet, I saw first-hand what it meant to make sacrifices.

Mom was a nurse at a government hospital. She worked on all shifts, morning, noon, night. Despite her hectic schedule, she always ensured me and my brothers had a warm meal to come home to from school, helped us with homework and ensured we were on time for extra curricular activities such as sports, music lessons and computer lessons. I still remember, like it was yesterday that mom would return from her night shift then immediately take me on the bus to school for computer classes. Never once have I heard her utter feeling tired. She always has a smile on her face. A wonderful, gentle lady with a heart of gold.

Dad was a clerk at a multinational corporation. He worked on a regular 9am-5pm, 5 days week job. In his free time, Dad ventured into other businesses after work to supplement his income. He started up a band that played at weddings and parties, opened up a video game shop and even tried his hands at selling clothes. He would normally return home well after 12 midnight. It was thus a ritual for my brothers and I to stay up to see what surprises he'd bring back for us. We would excitedly greet him at the gate and help bring in his luggage. Then we'd sit down together to savour the "Roti Canai or "Char Kuey Teow" before being rushed off to bed. Dad always ensured we had the best. He taught us the value of money but most importantly to earn it with Integrity.

Years have gone by and I now find myself being a father. We take the kids along to visit mom and dad on the weekends and I'm delighted to feel the same sense of familiarity seeing them live their values of Working with a Purpose, Love, Integrity and Unity.

I'm glad I found my real Superheroes.

Who is your superhero?

LAW of ATTRACTION

by ArmaanM, 20May2012

Positivity begets positivity.
Have you ever wondered why bad luck comes in a droves but it never seems to be the same about good luck.
You wake up late for an important meeting, you get stuck in traffic, the radiator blows and all at the same time. You ask yourself, “Why do these things always happen to me?”.

According to Michael J. Losier( Law of Attraction – The science of attracting more of what you want and less of what you don’t), he clearly explains that “I attract into my life whatever I give my attention, energy and focus to, whether positive or negative”.
A thought, a wish, a prayer are all examples of the things that we think of every second of our lives. Consciously or subconsciously we are either thinking of something Positive or Negative. When we think about something frequent enough and without doubt, it starts to manifest in our lives.
Let’s go back to the first example but instead of thinking of all the negative situations that you could encounter, start thinking of the positive ones. Say to yourself, “I’m going to have a smooth drive in my trusted car and will reach the office early”. Keep thinking positively in all your daily actions for the next 21 days and great things will start to happen.
In truth, you have been using this knowledge all your life without realizing it. Do you recall the time you succeeded in achieving your sales target, buying the car/bike of your dreams, getting that promotion at work, graduating from School/University, finding your ideal partner.
Remember that the more positive you are, the more positivity you attract in your life.
Go ahead and try it, now.
“You are a living magnet; you attract into your life people, situations and circumstances that are in harmony with your dominant thoughts. Whatever you dwell on in the conscious grows in your experience. “ –Brian Tracy

It all starts with an IDEA

We live our lives today in the comfort of many successful inventions of yesteryear. However, had it not been for the brave men and women who put their necks on the line or more so their reputation, we would not have the luxuries that we so rely on today.

Let's take for example the invention of the Light Bulb, Electricity, the Automobile and the Telephone. These gadgets were not always around but a situation called for it's creation.

The people who were most affected by the need to remedy this situation started doing something about it. They started having ideas on how their inventions would improve their lives and the lives of others around them.

There is work involved. Not forgetting the failures and humiliation received from the "non-believers" but through perseverance and resilience, our inventors are today cherished for their success and the comforts they give the world today.

What challenges do you face today that you might be able to resolve?

It all starts with an IDEA.

Here is a list of popular Inventors that improved the lives of millions through their Ideas:

Thomas Edison 1847-1931
The first great invention developed by Thomas Edison was the tin foil phonograph. A prolific producer, Edison is also known for his work with lightbulbs, electricity, film and audio devices, and much more.

Alexander Graham Bell 1847-1869
In 1876, at the age of 29, Alexander Graham Bell invented his telephone. Among one of his first innovations after the telephone was the "photophone," a device that enabled sound to be transmitted on a beam of light.

George Washington Carver 1864-1943
George Washington Carver was an agricultural chemist who invented three hundred uses for peanuts and hundreds more uses for soybeans, pecans and sweet potatoes; and changed the history of agriculture in the south.

John Logie Baird 1888-1946
John Logie Baird is remembered as the inventor of mechanical television (an earlier version of television). Baird also patented inventions related to radar and fibre optics.

Benjamin Franklin 1706-1790
